Designing the Screen for Device Applications

Use the Screen Design page of the Device Application Designer to design the screen for your device application.

1. In the Flow Design page, select a screen from the Palette and drag and drop it onto the canvas.
   You can select from the stock screens, or select the Empty screen to design yourself.
2. Double-click the screen.
   The Screen Design page opens.
3. Select the device for which you want to design the screen.
4. Drag and drop items from the Screen Design Palette onto the screen.
5. (Optional) Assign actions to the controls.
6. (Optional) Create a mobile business object reference.
7. Select File > Save.

• Screen Design
  When designing screens for mobile devices, keep the following in mind:
• Screen Design Page Properties
  These are the property pages that display in the Properties for the Screen Design page when no objects are selected.
• Screen Design Palette Options
  Drag and drop items from the palette to design the screen for a device application.
• Selecting a Device
  Select a device to display an empty canvas in the Screen Design page, formatted for that device.
• Style Sets
  Style sets have their own look and feel and are used to design mobile applications that look good on multiple device platforms.
• Using Drag and Drop to Add a Data Source to a Screen
  Drag and drop a mobile business object onto an empty screen to use the predefined data of the mobile business object, for example, a table.
• Adding a Navigation Bar
  Add a navigation bar to the screen or tab panel to enable navigation between different views in the device application.
• Adding Items to the Menu or Table Context
  Drag and drop a menu item or menu separator onto the Menu; or a context item onto the Table Context.
• Adding Controls to the Screen
  Use the Screen Design Palette to add controls to your device application screen.
• Creating Widget Events
  Use the Coding tab to assign widget events to a control.
• Configuring Control Properties
  Use the Properties page of any control to configure control properties.
• Assigning Rule Validation to the Edit Box
  Validate user input on the device application by assigning validation rules to the edit box control.
• Adding Controls to Containers
  Group controls together by adding them to containers.
• Assigning an Action to a Control
  You can assign actions to controls that lead to the performance of actions.
• Creating a Screen Template
  Create templates from screens so that the information for the selected screen is saved for re-use.
• Creating Unwired Platform Profile References
  Use the Unwired Platform Profile References dialog to create new profile references or to edit existing profile references.
• Creating a New Mobile Business Object Reference
  Use the Mobile Business Object References dialog to view, edit, and create new mobile business object references. This allows you to create a screen with a predefined mobile business object as the source, for example, a virtual table.
• Creating Variable References
  Use the Variable References dialog to create a new variable to which to assign a control.
• Creating Image References
  Drag and drop an image from your workspace onto controls that support image references, or use the Images dialog to create new, user-defined image references to associate with controls.
