Creating an Input Source

In a view model, Input Source elements represent Data Federation objects such as database operations, files, and data services, which deliver data to the view model.

Follow these steps to configure each input source. A view model can have several input sources.

  1. To create an Input Source element, drag the data source (for example, a database operation) from Enterprise Explorer into the view model editor.
Note: You can also create an Input Source by clicking the Input Source button in the palette. Use the button to create Input Source elements for HTTP requests and for web services whose WSDL files are not in the data catalog—you’ll specifiy the source of the data later.
WorkSpace Data Federation creates an Input Source element. If you dragged the data source from the data catalog, the Input Source element has the same name as the data source.
  2. Double-click the Input Source element to open the Input Source Properties dialog.
  3. Click in the Name field and give this Input Source a name. We recommend that you use the name of the object (database operation or data service, for example) that provides the data.

Configure your Input Source element, and if the input source is a file, HTTP or web service, configure a transformation. Then configure error handling for the Input Source and map Input Source parameters to global parameters.
