Testing a Data Service

Execute a data service from Sybase WorkSpace to test it.

Prerequisites

Before executing a data service, do the following:

Develop a view model and deploy it as a data service.
Connect to the grid domain controller (GDC) for the domain in which the data service resides.

Follow these steps to perform a test execution of a data service.

Find the data service in Enterprise Explorer (Categories > ViewLibrary > DataServices).
Right-click the data service and select Execute. If the data service requires parameter values to be supplied at run time, WorkSpace Data Federation prompts you to enter them.
Enter parameter values if prompted to do so and click OK to execute the data service . The data service runs on its home grid server.

WorkSpace Data Federation displays progress information while the data service is running, then displays the results in the Execution Results view in the bottom pane.

In a production environment, data services typically are called via JDBC or run automatically on a schedule, caching their results.
