Provisioning a SQL View from a Database Table

Create a SQL view that brings a table in an external relational database into Sybase Data Federation’s virtual database.

Prerequisites

Create a database connector for the external database that contains the table.

Follow these steps to provision a SQL view:

  1. In Enterprise Explorer, connect to the grid domain controller (GDC) that hosts the database connector that connects to the database you want to use.
  2. Expand the grid domain controller and navigate to the database containing the table you want. Look under the grid domain controller (GDC) in Categories/ViewLibrary/DatabaseServices/<DB connector>/<domain.DB connector>/<database>/dbo/<table>.
  3. Right-click on the table and select Provision SQL View. The Provision SQL View dialog opens.
  4. Enter a name for the SQL view and, if you wish, a description that explains its purpose.
  5. Click OK to create the SQL view. WorkSpace displays the new SQL view under Categories/ViewLibrary/DatabaseServices/<DB connector>/ProvisionedSQLViews.
Next

To use the SQL view’s data in a view model, create a virtual database operation.
