Generating a SQL View from a Data Service or Database Operation

Create a SQL view that brings the results of a data service or database operation into Sybase Data Federation’s virtual database.

Prerequisites

Create the data service or database operation that will provide data to your SQL view.

Follow these steps to generate a SQL view:

  1. In Enterprise Explorer, connect to the grid domain controller (GDC) that hosts the data service or database operation you want to use.
  2. Expand the grid domain controller and navigate to the data service or database operation you want:
    Data services Categories/ViewLibrary/DataServices/<data service>

Here’s what a data service looks like:

    Database operations Categories/ViewLibrary/DatabaseServices/<DB connector>/<DB operation>

Here’s what a database operation looks like:

  3. Right-click on a data service or database operation and select Generate SQL View. The Generate SQL View dialog opens.
  4. Enter a name for the SQL view and, if you wish, a description that explains its purpose.
  5. Click OK. WorkSpace prompts you to enter parameter values if any are required by the data service or database operation.
  6. Enter parameter values and click OK. WorkSpace creates the new SQL view and displays it under:
    Data services Categories/ViewLibrary/DataServices/VirtualSQLViews/
    Database operations Categories/ViewLibrary/DatabaseServices/<DB connector>/VirtualSQLViews/

To use the SQL view’s data in a view model, create a virtual database operation.
