Browsing for Input Sources

Find data input sources using Enterprise Explorer and add them to a view model.

Prerequisites

Connect WorkSpace Data Federation to a grid domain controller.

When WorkSpace Data Federation is connected to a Data Federation domain, you can use Enterprise Explorer to browse the domain's data catalog for relational and nonrelational input sources.

  1. (Optional) To look for relational input sources, expand Categories/ViewLibrary and consult the table to learn where to find the type of input source you need.
    Categories/ViewLibrary/... Contents
DatabaseServices/<dbconn>/ Database operations stored in folders named for their database connectors
DatabaseServices/<dbconn>/ProvisionedSQLViews SQL views provisioned from tables in external databases
DatabaseServices/<dbconn>/VirtualSQLViews SQL views generated from database operations
    DataServices Data services
DataServices/VirtualSQLViews SQL views generated from data services
    VirtualDatabaseServices/Operations Virtual database operations
    VirtualDatabaseServices/Services Reserved for system use
VirtualDatabaseServices/VirtualSQLViews SQL views generated from virtual database operations
  2. (Optional) Browse for nonrelational input sources such as XML files, CSV files, and WSDL files. The locations of these files can vary from one Data Federation domain to another. Good places to start looking are the /GeneratedViews, /Shares, and /WSDLs directories.
  3. When you find an input source you want to use, drag it from Enterprise Explorer and drop it into the Data Federation view model editor. The view model editor creates an Input Source element, giving it the same name as the original input source you dragged from the data catalog.
