Managing server groups

You can organize OpenSwitch servers into groups such as by geography or function. You can execute registered procedures, or connect or disconnect servers in the server group, so that you do not have to issue the same command to each server individually.

For example, you can add the primary and secondary OpenSwitch servers that form a mutually-aware cluster to a server group. This makes it easier to issue commands that must be issued to both servers in a mutually-aware cluster.

StepsCreating server groups in OpenSwitch Manager

NoteThe Default server group is created automatically when you register the OSWM plug-in.

  1. Select OpenSwitch Manager, then select File | New | Server Group. You can also double-click the Add Server Group icon in the Details pane on the right side of the Sybase Central window.

  2. Provide a name and a description for the new server group and click Next.

  3. Select a server from “Add Server Group - Add Servers” window. These are servers listed in the interfaces file in UNIX or the sql.ini file in Windows. You can also see a list of these servers if you select the OpenSwitch Manager icon, and the select the Servers tab in the Details pane of Sybase Central.

  4. Provide the user name and password in the Connect to OpenSwitch Server window, and then click OK to add the server to the server group.

If the OpenSwitch server you want to connect to is not listed, click Finish, and then right-click the server group and select Connect. See “Connecting OpenSwitch servers” to connect to your OpenSwitch server.
