Creating a Data Federation Connection Profile

Create a grid domain controller (GDC) connection profile to supply the runtime connection information for a Sybase Data Federation GDC.

Prerequisites

Before performing this task, you should already have started and configured the GDC for which you want to create a connection profile; doing so reduces the amount of information that you have to provide manually when you create the connection profile.

For more information on how to manage a GDC, see the Data Federation Administration Guide, part of the DI Suite documentation set, which is available on the Sybase Product Manuals Web site at http://sybooks.sybase.com
  1. In Enterprise Explorer, right-click the server type or enterprise resource for which you want to create a connection profile and select New.
  2. Enter a name and description for the connection profile, and click Next.
Table 1. Create Connection Profile page
    Field Description
Name Enter a unique and descriptive name for the connection profile.
Description (Optional) Enter a profile description that helps you distinguish it from others.
Auto-Connect at Startup (Optional) Connect automatically to the server and display its contents in Enterprise Explorer when Sybase WorkSpace starts.
  3. Enter the properties of the GDC and click Next:
    Table 2. Server Properties page
    Field Description
Grid Domain Controller Type the GDC host name.

    For example: bthoenen.sybase.com.

Port Type the port used by the GDC.

    For example: 3099.

Authentication Service If a connection to the GDC is available, select an available Data Federation Authentication Service. If you are not connected, type a value for the authentication service.
Type If you used the drop-down menu to select an authentication service, the associated Type (Grid, NIS, or LDAP) appears in this field automatically. You can type a value if the GDC connection is not available.
User Name Enter the user name for the Data Federation GDC user.

    For example: Administrator.

    Password
    1. Enter the password; the default password is Administrator.

    2. If desired, select Save Password option.
  4. Click Test Connection to ping the server and to verify that the connection profile is working.
  5. Click Finish to create the connection profile.

The connection profile displays under the appropriate category in the Enterprise Explorer.

  6. (Optional) If your database server exposes multiple databases, and you create connection profiles for multiple databases simultaneously, click Next.
    1. Select Check for Multiple Databases to display a list of available databases.
    2. Select the databases for which you want to create connection profiles.
  7. (Optional) If you did not select the auto-connect option, you can manually connect to the GDC by right-clicking the GDC name and selecting Connect. You can connect to more than one GDC concurrently. Connection information displays next to the GDC name, indicating that the connection is active.
