Installing Sybase WorkSpace

Install Sybase WorkSpace using the installer program.

Prerequisites
  1. Insert the Sybase WorkSpace installation DVD or CD, or, if you are installing from a Web download, extract the archive to a temporary directory.
  2. Start the installer.
    1. Select Start > Run from the Windows Start menu.
    2. In the Run dialog box, browse to locate the setup.exe file on your installation media drive or, if you are installing from a Web download, in the temporary directory to which you extracted the archive.
    3. Click OK.
    The installer welcome page appears.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select the geographic location for your installation of the software. The license agreement appears in the main section of the page. Scroll down to read the text.
  5. Accept the terms of the license, and click Next . The installation directory selection page appears.
  6. Choose an installation directory.
    • The default directory is C:\Sybase\WorkSpace . Sybase recommends that you use the default directory.
    • To specify a directory other than the default, click Browse.
    Note:
    • Use English characters for all directory names.
    • Use single-byte characters for the installation directory path.
    • Use the underscore character instead of hyphens or spaces in the installation directory name.
    • Do not install Sybase WorkSpace in the same directory as Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0. Specifying the same directory results in errors when deploying services.
  7. Select whether or not to reuse an existing Eclipse or JDK installation. This option is recommended for advanced users. Click Browse to specify an Eclipse directory or JDK directory other than the default.
Note: To guarantee compatibility with Eclipse and the JDK, Sybase recommends that you use the versions that installs with Sybase WorkSpace.
  8. Click Next. If the specified Sybase WorkSpace installation directory does not exist, you are prompted to confirm creation of this directory before continuing.
  9. Select a license type.

A dedicated license file is required for unserved and served licenses. If you have not yet generated and downloaded the appropriate license file from the Sybase Product Download Center (SPDC), review the instructions in Preinstallation Tasks for SySAM.

    • Trial: Allows you to evaluate Sybase WorkSpace for limited period of time. No license file is required for this license type.
    • Unserved (local) License: Dedicated standalone seat license managed locally on your machine. Verify that the license file is available on your local machine before proceeding.
    • Served (remote) License: Dedicated standalone seat license managed from a license server. You must know your license manager host name and license manager TCP port (if other than the default) before proceeding.
  10. Click Next, and provide any requested license information.
Selected license type Required license information
Trial No license information is required.
Unserved license Click Browse to specify the location of the unserved license on your local machine. Click Next.
Served license Enter the name of the computer on which your license server resides. If your license server uses a port number different from the default number of 27000, enter that port number. Click Next.
  11. Select the features to install for Sybase WorkSpace, and click Next. You identified these features in Identify Installation Components and generated licenses for these features in Preinstallation Tasks for SySAM. If you are rerunning the installer, previously installed features are indicated as installed.
Note: If you choose to install a feature for which you do not have a license, the installation generates a trial license for that feature by default. The installation defaults to a trial license when the license is invalid or cannot be found. After the trial period, these features will no longer function.
  12. Read the summary information for the features you are about to install, and click Install to proceed. If you are installing the product from CD, insert CD 2 to continue the installation when prompted. A status bar and checklist report the progress of the installation.
  13. Select any of the following, and click Next:
    • Review the Release Bulletin on the Sybase Product Manuals Web site
    • Start Sybase WorkSpace 2.1
    • Create Sybase WorkSpace 2.1 shortcut on desktop
  14. When a message appears indicating that Sybase WorkSpace 2.1 has been installed successfully, click Finish.
Note: If you selected Start Sybase WorkSpace 2.1 in the previous step, the installer finish page may be covered as the application launches. Minimize the application, and click Finish to complete the installation before you begin using the application.
