Creating a Replication Server Article

A Replication Server article is an extension to a replication definition allowing table replication definitions or function replication definitions to be part of a publication. Because an article is associated with a publication, you should make sure you have created a publication before creating an article.

  1. Open Enterprise Explorer, and connect to your Replication Server.
  2. Expand the view for your Replication Server connection profile, right-click a primary database for which to create articles, and choose New Artifact.

The New Replication Server Artifacts wizard displays.

  3. In the wizard selection list, highlight Article, and click Next.
  4. Specify properties for the article.
    Field Example
Article Name Enter a name for the article.
Primary Data Location Provide values for the following fields:
    • Primary server: Select a primary data server from the menu drop-down.

    • Primary database: Select a primary database from the menu drop-down.

Publication Setting From the menu dropdown, select a publication to contain the article.
Replication Definition Setting Provide either a table replication definition or a function replication definition for which this article is to be created:
    • Table replication definition: Select a table replication definition from the menu drop-down.

    • Function replication definition Select function replication definition from the menu drop-down.

The changes made in this wizard page appear in the Preview field.

  5. Click Next, and specify an optional where clause. Click Add to open the Where clause setting wizard.
    Field Example
Name Click in this field, and select a column from the drop-down menu.
Operator Click in this field, and select a boolean operator from the drop-down menu.
Value Enter a value for the where-clause condition.
Remove, Remove All Remove a highlighted criterion or all criteria, as necessary.
Click OK when you are done specifying a where clause. Use Edit to edit the clause. Use Remove or Remove All to respectively remove one or all clauses.
  6. Click Finish to create the article.
