Adding a Database Connection

Add a database connection to view and import database metadata.

  1. Right-click Data Connections in the Server Explorer and select Add Connection.
  2. Click Change to select a data source, then click OK.

    Data sources are:


    • Microsoft Access Database File
    • Microsoft ODBC Data Source
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5
    • Microsoft SQL Server Database File
    • Oracle Database
    • Other
    Note: For a OLEDB database driver connection, you must save the user name and password for Visual SQL to work. Check Save my password in the Add Connection dialog.

  3. Click Test Connection to ensure the database that you want to connect to is running.

    A dialog appears stating if the test connection succeeded.

  4. Click OK.
  5. Click OK to add the connection.
