Basic software components for the DirectConnect interface

Figure 11-1 shows the basic software components required to access a database using the DirectConnect interface and the DirectConnect middleware data access product.

The figure shows the components of a Direct Connect database connection using Direct Connect middle ware. At top is the Development environment. It is connected to the Database interface D L L called P B D I R n 0 supplied by Sybase. The Database interface D L L is connected to the Sybase Open Client C T - Library ( C T - L i b ) A P I. This database client software goes through a network layer using any supported network protocol supplied by a network or database vendor, and it connects to Sybase Direct Connect Server middleware. This connects to the Mainframe component called Sybase Mainframe Connect, which connects finally to a database.
