New Features in 5.1 SP04

SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor 5.1 SP04 introduces several new features and enhancements. New features include tighter integration with SAP HANA, adapter support for Apache™ Hadoop®, the ability to configure adapters and projects for end-to-end data confirmation and consistent recovery, the ability to partition streams for improved scalability, enhanced binding functionality, two new datatypes, cluster enhancements, REST support for the ESP Web Services provider, and a new adapter.

Features related to tighter integration with SAP HANA include the automated installation of the ESP Studio plugin into SAP HANA Studio, the ability to act as a data source for SAP HANA Smart Data Access, the ability to reference SAP HANA tables and views from within an ESP project, and the ability to add SAP HANA tables into ESP projects using the SAP HANA Navigator.

In addition, schema discovery has been enhanced to improve usability when connecting to databases that have a large number of tables or views, and the adapter toolkit is enhanced to allow a single project to start multiple instances of the same toolkit-based adapter.

• Tighter Integration with SAP HANA
  SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor now integrates more seamlessly with SAP HANA in a number of ways. This tighter integration provides an improved user experience and allows data sharing in new ways.
• Hadoop Support
  SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor 5.1 SP04 introduces support for Intel® and Hortonworks solutions powered by Apache Hadoop. Transfer data between the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and ESP using the updated File adapters.
• Guaranteed Delivery, Consistent Recovery, and Auto Checkpoint
  You can use three new features—guaranteed delivery, consistent recovery, and auto checkpoint—to protect a project against data loss in the event of a server failure or loss of connection. This set of features supports the goal of zero data loss.
• Automatic Partitioning for Improved Scalability
  SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor 5.1 SP04 provides the ability to automatically partition elements within an ESP project for parallel processing, allowing greater project scalability by eliminating bottlenecks.
• Bindings on Input and Output Streams, Delta Streams, and Windows
  SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor 5.1 SP04 introduces enhancements to the binding functionality, allowing you to connect streams, delta streams, and windows across projects.
• New Datatypes
  SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor 5.1 SP04 includes two new datatypes, DECIMAL and TIME, along with two new aliases, BIGINT and DOUBLE.
• Cluster Enhancements
  In ESP 5.1 SP04, enhancements to the cluster include new encryption options, the ability to specify separate administrative and RPC ports, and the ability to log security audit events.
• REST Support in the ESP Web Services Provider
  The ESP Web Services Provider that was introduced in 5.1 SP02 now includes support for REST services, in addition to SOAP services.
• Adapters
  In addition to the full set of adapters provided in version 5.1 SP03, Event Stream Processor 5.1 SP04 includes support for the new HTTP Client Output adapter. This adapter uses an HTTP POST request for every event in the stream to which it is attached. You can specify the content of the HTTP request message body either in the adapter configuration, or you can configure the adapter to obtain the message body content from a column in the attached stream.
