Managing automatic M-Business Client upgrades

M-Business Server supports automatically upgrading M-Business Client on all device platforms, except Symbian OS, when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The M-Business Anywhere system administrator has set up rules for the M-Business Client autoupgrade feature on the M-Business Server.

  • The user has previously installed M-Business Client on the device.

  • The user synchronizes the device wirelessly, or uses a cradle and initiates synchronizations from the M-Business Client menus, or synchronizes a Win32 M-Business Client through the user's desktop.

  • Your mobile device and M-Business Client version match the rules that your M-Business Anywhere system administrator has specified for the autoupgrade to occur.

M-Business Server allows you to automatically upgrade the M-Business Client version on your users’ devices when they synchronize. To do this, you create rules for each device type and current M-Business Client version to be upgraded. Each rule specifies the new version for the upgrade, along with several options as to how the upgrade is to be performed. When a user synchronizes, the relevant user information is compared against the rule, and if the user is subject to that rule, the new version of M-Business Client is seamlessly delivered to the device or desktop through M-Business Connect.

Note

To perform an automated M-Business Client upgrade, the version of M-Business Client that is currently installed on a device must be 6.7 or later. The automatic upgrade feature is not available in versions earlier than 6.7.

Become familiar with the mechanics of how automated M-Business Client upgrades work before you try to set up client upgrade rules. See Mechanics of client upgrade rules.
