RTRIM function [String]

Function

Returns a string with trailing blanks removed.

Syntax

RTRIMstring-expression )

Parameters

string-expression The string to be trimmed.

NoteThe result data type of an RTRIM function is a LONG VARCHAR. If you use RTRIM in a SELECT INTO statement, you must have a Large Objects Management option license or use CAST and set RTRIM to the correct data type and size.

Example

The following statement returns the string “Test Message” with all trailing blanks removed.

SELECT RTRIM( 'Test Message     ' ) FROM iq_dummy
