Getting Started

SAP® Sybase® RAP is a consolidated trading and risk data repository and data services platform for customers in the capital markets and investment management sectors.

This guide is intended for database and application development staff, and for Sybase Professional Services representatives, customer IT support, and other technical personnel who set up and administer RAP.

• Why RAP?
  Conventional relational database management systems (RDBMS) cannot meet the real-time query requirements for automated securities trading and real-time market analysis.
• RAP Architecture
  RAP is a bundle consisting of Sybase IQ, Adaptive Server® Enterprise, and two sample projects within the Event Stream Processor environment. RAP also supports SAP HANA as the in-memory database. One sample project outputs data into the SAP HANA database, and the other outputs data into the Adaptive Server Enterprise database.
• Historical Database
  RAP stores large amounts of data and maintains it for long periods of time in the historical database.
• In-Memory Database
  RAP stores current market data in an in-memory cache database. The in-memory database is populated using the SAP HANA (or ASE) Output adapter in the RAP sample project.
• Sample Queries
  RAP includes SQL scripts and sample data that allow you to run sample queries. You can run the scripts against sample data to evaluate the retrieval performance for historical or real-time (intraday) data.
