Planning Your Installation

Before you install or upgrade, prepare your environment.

The installer requires at least 300MB free disk space to run. Installing all Sybase Unwired Platform components, including both versions of Sybase Unwired WorkSpace (Eclipse and Visual Studio), requires approximately 1.9GB of disk space.

If upgrading from an existing Sybase Unwired Platform version, migrate projects and data, or your production environment, before installation.
Shut down any Sybase products, Sybase processes, and associated third-party processes that are currently running, including the consolidated database server (SQL Anywhere), OpenDS server, and Sybase Unified Agent.
Note: If you have a previous installation of Sybase Unwired Platform, shut down all Unwired Servers before shutting down the consolidated database (SQL Anywhere).
Uninstall the existing version of Sybase Unwired Platform. Sybase Unwired Platform 1.0 and Sybase Unwired Platform 1.2 cannot exist on the same machine. If you want to retain the existing version of Sybase Unwired Platform, install version 1.2 on a different machine.
Identify the components and options to install.
Make sure your system meets all requirements for your installation scenario and planned use. Install the necessaryinstallation prerequisites.
If you are installing Afaria from the Sybase Unwired Platform installation media, install the Afaria prerequisites not included on the Sybase Unwired Platform installation media.
If you are an existing Afaria customer, upgrade to Afaria 6.0 and install Afaria 6.0 Hot Fix 23 (required for Afaria Server).
For Visual Studio users, install Visual Studio 2008 before installing Sybase Unwired Platform.
