The Client Option routes requests to servers on the LAN or on the mainframe. When using a TCP/IP network driver, Client Option requires the following additional information to establish a TCP/IP connection to a given server:
The name of the IBM TCP/IP address space
IP address or host name of the host on which the server runs
Server name
When an application requests a connection to a server, Client Option:
Looks up the server name in the TCP/IP Server-Host Mapping Table (SYGWHOST).
Determines the type of listener the server is using. If the listener is for a Sybase LAN or mainframe, the Client Option routes the request directly to the server.
After the server has received and processed the request, Client Option reads the results directly from a LAN-based server or mainframe Open Server.
