Starting SQL Anywhere

Start the SQL Anywhere developer edition server from Sybase WorkSpace or using a command line script.

If you started the SQL Anywhere demo in addition to also having started the Service Container Runtime database in Service Container, you will have two SQL Anywhere icons in your icon tray. That is because SQL Anywhere automatically starts with Service Container.

Choose from:
Option Description
Using the Windows Start menu

Select Start > Programs > Sybase > Sybase WorkSpace > SQL Anywhere 10 .

Using the command line

On Windows, choose from:


  • <installation directory>\DevRuntimes\ASA\startDemo.bat
  • <installation directory>\DevRuntimes\ASA\startWebDemo.bat
On UNIX, choose from:
  • <installation directory>/DevRuntimes/ASA/startDemo.sh
  • <installation directory>/DevRuntimes/ASA/startWebDemo.sh
