Managed Bean Initialization

A managed bean is initialized automatically by JavaServer Faces (JSF) at runtime, but a complex property type in a managed bean may not initialize. If a property is not initialized, a NullPointerException is thrown.

To initialize the property of a managed bean class, either:

• Declare the property as a managed property in the faces-config.xml file. Or,

• Manually initialize the property in the Java source code.

  If a managed bean property is a complex type, you must declare the property as a managed property in the faces-config.xml file to initialize the managed bean at runtime.
• Initializing a Managed Bean in the Java Source Code
  You must initialize the property of a managed bean if the property is a complex type.
