Resolving a SQL Anywhere Port Conflict

Resolve port conflicts for SQL Anywere runtime databases by changing duplicate port numbers in a data source. A data source maintains a pool of connections to a database server, increasing performance by allowing connection sharing and reuse.

Problem: Port conflicts typically manifest as port in use errors on the server and connection refused errors on the client.

Solution: If you see these errors, you may need to change the port number by following these steps:

  1. Open the data source. In the EAServer Management Console, click Resources > Data Sources. For more information, see the System Administration Guide in the EAServer core documentation.
  2. Search for instances of duplicate port numbers by double-clicking the data source and reviewing the contents of the General tab. For example, frequently the default port number might be inadvertantly used. Therefore, check for 1999 on this tab and change the default port number to a new, unused SQL Anywhere port number.
  3. Close and restart SQL Anywhere.
