Creating a Database

You can create SQL Anywhere, Adaptive Server Enterprise, or Sybase IQ databases, which you can use for developing database applications in Sybase WorkSpace.

Prerequisites

Before creating a database, complete the setup for Database Development. Optionally, you can set Create Database preferences to your database type. You must also connect to a server of the database type that you are creating, using a connection profile for a user with DBA privileges.

Note: To create a production database using options other than the ones described here and in the Create Database preferences page, see your Adaptive Server Anywhere, Adaptive Server Enterprise, or Sybase IQ documentation.
  1. Select File > New > Database.
  2. Enter a Database Name.

The name you enter is also used to identify the database log file.

  3. Select a Database Connection Profile Type that corresponds with the type of database you want to create.

ASE profile supports multiple databases per connection profile. SQL Anywhere and Sybase IQ allow only one database under per connection profile.

  4. Select a Database Connection Profile Name or select Create to create a new one.

For SQL Anywhere or Sybase IQ, if you do not indicate a new connection profile, WorkSpace associates the database with a connection profile of the same name.

  5. Click Finish.
  6. Review the status in SQL Results view.
Databases display under the connection profile.
