Enabling Adaptive Server Enterprise Features

You must enable the Adaptive Server Enterprise features that you want to use.

Prerequisites 

Create a connection profile for Adaptive Server Enterprise and connect to the ASE server.

You can enable the following features manually or use the ASE Features Enabling wizard:


This procedure describes using the ASE Features Enabling wizard.

  1. In the Enterprise Explorer, expand the connection profile for Adaptive Server Enterprise.
  2. Right-click the database and select Enable ASE Features.
    Note: If Enable ASE Features does not appear, right-click your ASE server, select Refresh, and repeat the step.
  3. Modify the following fields.
    Field Example
    Features Select the features to be enabled:
    • XML — Enable XML services.
    • Real Time Messaging--TIBCO JMS — Enable real-time messaging services for TIBCO.
    • Real Time Messaging--MQSeries — Enable real-time messaging services for IBM WebSphere MQ. Also specify the maximum number of online and Q engines and the current number of Q engines.
    • Web Service — Enable Web services.
    Environment Settings To specify your installation directory for Sybase products, type the path in the text field or click Browse.

    Enter the Adaptive Server Enterprise server name.

    XML Feature Options Specify XML feature options:
    • Install Java-based XML Mapping Functions — Required if you want to use SQL-to-XML and XML-to-SQL mapping wizards.
    • Increase Database Space if Necessary — Increase the size of database devices as required when enabling ASE features.
    Real Time Messaging Feature Options Specify logins to grant the messaging_role privilege. This field is disabled if Real-Time Messaging is already enabled.
  4. Click Finish.
    • If the configuration is successful, the selected ASE features are enabled, and you can run the Real-Time Messaging wizard and the SQL/XML wizard.
    • If the configuration is not successful, errors display in the SQL Results view.
