Errors Installing Afaria Server without Data Tier

Problem: You encounter an Afaria Server error while installing Afaria Server without the data tier.

Explanation: During Sybase Unwired Platform installation you supply these Afaria database entries—DB Hostname, DB PortNumber, DB ServerName, DB Login, and DB Password. The DB ServerName is not validated until the Afaria server is installed. At that time, if you entered an incorrect DB ServerName, the installer reports the error message:

An unexpected error occurred while attempting to communicate with the specified SQL Anywhere server and/or database.

Solution:

Click OK. The installation completes but reports:

Installation of following component(s) did not complete: Afaria Server
Click Finish.
To correct the problem, you must reinstall Afaria Server using the Sybase Unwired Platform. Enter the correct DB ServerName information.

Note:

The default DB ServerName is AFDB_<data tier hostname>.
The Sybase Unwired Platform installer asks for the DB ServerName in case it was changed during high-availability (HA) set up while installing the data tier.
