Installing SyBooks for Linux

StepsUsing the InstallShield Wizard.

  1. Insert the CD.

    • If the CD icon appears on the desktop (this can take several seconds), the CD has been automounted and you can go to step 3.

    • If the CD icon does not appear on the desktop, go to step 2 and mount the CD manually.

  2. Mount the CD in one of the following ways:

    • Using a graphical mounting tool:

      1. Select Main Menu | System Tools | Disk Management.

      2. Select /dev/cdrom.

      3. Select Mount. The CD icon appears on the desktop.

      4. Click Close and go to step 3.

    • From the command line (you may need root privileges for this procedure):

      1. Select Main Menu | System Tools | Terminal to open a terminal window.

      2. Enter:

        mount -r -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
        
      3. At the prompt, enter the command:

        /mnt/cdrom/setupLinux
        

        The SyBooks InstallShield launches.

      4. Go to step 5.

  3. Double click the CD icon. The CD window opens.

  4. Double click setupLinux to launch the InstallShield.

  5. In the InstallShield Welcome window, click Next.

  6. In the End-user License Agreement window, select the appropriate country/region from the menu, review the license agreement, select I Agree, and click Next.

  7. In the Directory Name field, specify the directory where SyBooks should be installed and click Next. A summary of your setup selections is displayed.

    The directory where you install SyBooks is referred to as $SYBASE.

  8. Click Next to start the installation. When the installation is done, you see the following message:

    The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed SyBooks for Your Product. Choose Finish to exit the wizard.
    

    The “Launch SyBooks for Your Product” option is selected by default. If you leave it selected, SyBooks launches automatically when you finish the installation. Unselect this option if you do not want SyBooks to launch at this time.

  9. Click Finish. If you elected to launch SyBooks, the SyBooks Welcome window opens.

  10. Click Display Bookshelf. The SyBooks window opens in your browser. The left pane contains document collection links and the right pane displays document text. If the Confirm Migration window opens, follow the instructions on the window to set up your profile.

  11. To view a document: In the left pane, click on a collection to expand it and then select and expand a document title. The text of the selected document appears in the right pane. Navigate through a document by using the links in the left pane or the Forward/Back arrows in the right pane.

  12. To close SyBooks, go to the Welcome window and click Close, and then close your browser.

  13. Unmount the CD in one of the following ways:

    • Autounmount—if your system has the automounter, you can unmount simply by right-clicking the CD icon and selecting Eject.

    • Graphical mounting tool:

      1. Select Main Menu | System Tools | Disk Management.

      2. Select /dev/cdrom.

      3. Click Unmount. The CD icon disappears from the desktop.

      4. Click Close and remove the CD from the CD drive.

    • From the command line (you may need root privileges for this procedure):

      1. Select Main Menu | System Tools | Terminal to open a terminal window.

      2. Enter:

        umount /mnt/cdrom
        

        NoteWatch the spelling of the umount command—it is not unmount.

        The CD icon disappears from the desktop.
