Because AIX 5.1 does not provide binary compatibility for 64-bit binaries for previous releases, you cannot run Adaptive Server release 12.0.x for 64-bit (which is built on AIX 4.3.3) on AIX 5.1.
Because of this operating system limitation, you cannot use the regular, automated upgrade procedure that is documented in the Adaptive Server Installation Guide to upgrade from Adaptive Server release 12.0.x 64/32 bit on IBM AIX -4.3.3 to Adaptive Server release 12.5.1-64bit on IBM AIX 5.1. Instead, perform the following:
Familiarize yourself with the upgrade processes described in the Adaptive Server Installation Guide.
Perform the pre-upgrade tasks described in the Adaptive Server Installation Guide to prepare 12.0.X ASE servers for upgrade
Upgrade or install the IBM AIX 5.1 Operating system
Perform the upgrade steps documented below to Manually upgrade the Adaptive Server 12.0.X databases.
You can upgrade Backupserver and Monitor Server according to the procedures described in the 12.5.1 Adaptive Server Installation Guide
