Searching a UDDI Registry

After you connect to a UDDI registry, you can search the UDDI registry.

  1. In Enterprise Explorer, expand the UDDI registry node that you are connected to.
  2. Right-click the My Published Items icon and click Search.
  3. Complete the basic search information.

    Field Description
    Business Looks for a business by name. For example, Sybase.
    Service Looks for a service. For example, GlobalWeather.
    tModel Looks for a taxonomy model (tModel). For example, uddi-org:types.
    Name Looks for a business, service, or tModel by its regular string name. For example: uddi-org:types (a tModel).
    UUID (Universal Unique Identifier) Looks for a business, service, or tModel by its UUID code. For example: uuid:C1ACF26D-9672-4404-9D70-39B756E62AB4 (the UUID that represents the uddi-org:types tModel).
    Search String Enter the first part of the search term. Use % as a wildcard. For example, global% or %weather.
    Language Some registry items are qualified by language. To limit your search to items in a particular language, select the language, for example, German (Standard) de.
    Limit returned results to To prevent lengthy search times, limit the number of results returned by selecting this option and entering an integer, for example, 5.

    In this case, the search ends after the first 5 results are found.

  4. If necessary, click Advanced to enter advanced search options.

    Field Options and their descriptions
    Sort Results By Name Displays search results ordered by service name.
    Date Displays search results ordered by the date the service was last updated or published to the UDDI registry.
    Unsorted Displays search results in the order found, without sorting.
    Sort Results Order Ascending Displays search results from A to Z.
    Descending Displays search results from Z to A.
    Exact Match Select this option to limit your search to an exact match. Unselect this option to expand your search to include results containing part or all of your search string. For example, a search for Calc can return the results Calc, Calculator, CalcSvc, and CalculatorADV if the check box is cleared.
    Case Sensitive Select the check box to include only results that have the same capitalization as your Search String.
    Identifiers (Business and tModel search types only) To narrow your search to include only a selected business identifier, for example, tax identifiers or Dun & Bradstreet's DUNS numbers, select this option and click [...] to open the Identifiers dialog box, where you set up identifiers.
    Categories To narrow your search to include only selected categories, for example, businesses in the telecommunications industry or in North America, select this option and click [...] to display the Categories dialog box, where you set up categories.
    Search Node Name (Optional) You can run a series of UDDI searches, each with their own search results folder:
    • If you leave this field as-is (Search Results), your search reuses the same search results folder, overwriting the previous search results.
    • If you edit this field, for example, Search Results for Global 04, a new search results folder is created with the new name.
  5. Click OK to start the search.

    Search results are displayed in the Enterprise Explorer in the Search Results folder, depending on the name you selected for Search Node Name.
