Creating a Replication Server Subscription

A Replication Server subscription is a request for Replication Server to maintain a replicated copy of an object in a replicate database at a specified location.

  1. Open Enterprise Explorer, and connect to your replicate Replication Server.
  2. Expand the view for your Replication Server connection profile, right-click a primary database for which to create the subscription, and choose New Artifact from the context menu.
  3. From the wizard selection screen, select Subscription, and click Next to start the wizard. You can also start this wizard by right-clicking a Subscriptions folder and choosing New Subscription.
  4. Specify the replicate data location and subscription type.
    Field Description
    Replicate location Specify the replicate server and database:
    • Replicate server: Select a replicate Replication Server from the drop-down menu.
    • Replicate database: Select a replicate database from the drop-down menu.
    Subscription type Select a subscription type:
    • Table RepDef: Subscribe to a table replication definition.
    • Function RepDef: Subscribe to a function replication definition.
    • Database RepDef: Subscribe to a database replication definition.
    • Publication: Subscribe to a publication.
    Replicate data location for permission granting Select this check-box to specify the replicate location at which to grant permissions. Then, specify the location details:
    • Replicate connection profile type: Choose a connection profile type from the drop-down menu.
    • Replicate connection profile name: Choose a connection profile name from the drop-down menu. Click Create to create a replicate connection profile.
    • Replicate server: Select a replicate data server from the menu drop-down.

    • Replicate database: Select a replicate database from the menu drop-down.

  5. Click Next, and specify naming, replication definition, and where criteria settings.
    Field Description
    Subscription prefix and suffix Specify a prefix or suffix for the subscription or subscriptions you are creating. These are optional.
    • Prefix for subscription name: Enter a prefix for the subscription.

    • Suffix for subscription name: Enter a suffix for the subscription. The default suffix is "_sub".

    Subscriptions Select subscriptions in the grid.
    • RepDef Name: This is the name of the replication definition for this subscription. This field is not modifiable.

    • Subscription: Specify the name by which you want the subscription to be known. To modify a value, click in the field, and type the desired subscription name.

      Materialization: Specify materialization preferences for replicate tables. As a default, this field specifies Without materialization. To modify this value, click in the field, and select another option from the menu drop-down. Alternate options are Without holdlock, Incrementally, and Atomic materialization.

    • Grant Permission: Select the corresponding check-box to grant permission for this subscription.

    • Truncate Table: Specify whether or not the truncate table command should be enabled for this subscription. For more information on this command, see the Replication Server Administration Guide.

    Use Select All and Deselect All to select or deselect all subscriptions. Use Invert to invert selections.
    Where clause Set criteria for column or parameter values to be replicated in this subscription:
    • Name: Click in this field, and select a column or parameter from the drop-down menu.
    • Operator: Click in this field, and select a boolean operator from the drop-down menu.
    • Value: Enter a value for the where-clause condition.
    Use Remove or Remove All to respectively remove one or all clauses.
  6. Specify save and execution properties.
    Field Description
    Generate script Select this option to generate the script for the subscriptions.
    Execute immediately Execute the SQL immediately. If you do not select this option, you must complete execution of the SQL later to create the subscriptions.
  7. Click Finish to close the wizard.
