A Typical Data Federation Deployment

A Sybase Data Federation domain consists of one or more servers that implement the data catalog and provide the data integration framework and its provisioning and access services. A Data Federation deployment consists of one or more domains.

Data Federation domains can be accessed by a number of different clients. Some clients require no Sybase software installed on their machines; this category includes transparent file access clients, which access files in the data catalog via NFS (for UNIX clients) or CIFS/SMB (for Windows clients), and Web service clients, which access Data Federation via SOAP calls. Clients that require some Sybase software installed include ODBC/JDBC clients and command line clients.

  Installing and starting a grid domain controller, the first server in a Data Federation domain, takes only a few minutes. Your Sybase deployment architect will help you plan for and deploy additional servers if you need them, and will guide you through subsequent set-up tasks.
• Data Federation Domains
  A basic Sybase Data Federation domain can contain just a grid domain controller (GDC). You can add servers for advanced capabilities or to increase capacity, as required. A machine that participates in a Data Federation domain generally hosts one server.
