  • Forward slash in path prevents adding secondary node on Windows – If you use Sybase Central to add a secondary node to a Sybase IQ server on Windows, and the path contains a forward slash, Sybase Central returns:
Synchronize.RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is:
java.rmi.RemoteException: Command execution failed.; nested exception is:
java.lang.Exception: Error encountered while running the command:
     C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\.4619162722483927.bat.
  • Workaround – Use a backslash as the file separator when specifying the database file path in the Sybase Central wizard.

  • Cannot start Sybase Central after installing Sybase IQ 15.4 on top of Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.7
  • Workaround – Modify the scjview.ini file under %SYBASE%\Shared\Sybase Central 6.1.0\win64 to point the JRE_DIRECTORY to %SYBASE%\Shared\JRE-6_0_20_64BIT instead of %SYBASE%\Shared\JRE-6_0_20_64BIT. Start the Sybase Central of IQ and then manually register the IQ plugin.

  • Viewing the properties of a new database returns an error – If you create a new database in Sybase Central and click Properties, a Null Pointer Exception error occurs.
  • Workaround – Connect to the database before clicking Properties:

    2. On the Identification tab, enter User ID and Password.
    3. On the Database tab, specify Server Name (optional) and Database file.
    4. On the Network tab, select TCP/IP network option and enter Host and Port values.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Right-click the database and select Properties.

  • Sybase Central fails to convert server to multiplex – Sybase Central may return the following error instead of converting a server to multiplex:
java.rmi.RemoteException: Command execution failed.; nested exception is:
java.lang.Exception: Error encountered while running the command:
     C:\Windows\TEMP\.6653879025882538.bat.
  • Workaround
    1. Shorten the PATH environment variable to fewer than 1024 characters (its limit), without removing the Windows\System32 folder.
    2. In Windows Services, stop and restart Sybase IQ Agent 15.
    3. Restart Sybase Central and run Convert Server to Multiplex again.

  • Unable to launch Sybase Central after installing VC++ 2005 Redistributable package – The issue is related to the VC++ 2005 Redistributable package installed for Sybase IQ 15.4. If you apply the VC++ 2005 Redistributable package and then install the Replication Manager Plug-in (RMP) 15.2, the value of JRE_DIRECTORY inside the scjview.ini file becomes C:\sybase\Shared\JRE-6_0_6_64BIT, instead of C:\sybase\Shared\JRE-6_0_6_32BIT.
  • Workaround – Change the Sybase Central shortcut in the start menu to point to scjview.exe in %SYBASE%\shared\Sybase Central 6.0.0\win64, start Sybase Central, then manually register the RMP plug-in.
