Log Error Messages and Events

SAP ASE supports SAP ASE error logging and Windows event logging.

• SAP ASE Error Logging
  Upon start-up, SAP ASE begins to write information to a local error log file: %SYBASE%\%SYBASE_ASE%\install\errorlog.
• Windows Event Logging
  SAP ASE logs error messages in the Windows event log, if event logging is enabled.
• Manage Logs
  Parameters, options, and system procedures for enabling and disabling event and error logging and whether they affect the SAP ASE error log, Windows event log, or both.
• Set Error Log Paths
  The installation program sets the error log location in the SAP ASE installation directory when you configure a new SAP ASE. Backup Servers have their own error logs.
• Manage Messages
  When event logging is enabled, you can manage its functions.
• Using a Remote Log
  By default, if event logging is enabled, SAP ASE logs messages to the Windows event log on the local computer system. You can change the destination computer to which to log messages.
• Central Logging Site
  You can record messages from multiple SAP ASEs in the Windows event log of a central, network computer. The recording computer does not need to run SAP ASE.
• View Messages
  Use the Windows Event Viewer and a text editor to look at and log error messages.
