Configuring the ODBC Driver

When you configure the ODBC driver to connect to SAP ASE, you create an ODBC data source. You can configure more than one datasource for SAP ASE. For example, you might want one data source for each database.

1. Start the ODBC Data Source Administrator (odbcad32.exe) from the Windows System program group.

   For more information about ODBC, see your Windows operating system documentation.

2. Click the System DSN tab.
3. Click Add.
4. Select SAP ASE ODBC Driver as the driver to use for SAP ASE, then click Finish.
5. Complete the ODBC SAP ASE Setup dialog box:
   • Data Source Name – enter a short description of the SAP ASE. For example, if you are creating the data source to connect to a specific SAP ASE database, include the database name in the description.
   • Description (optional) – a long description of a data source name; for example, “Accounting database on SAP ASE 3.”
6. Click the Options button.
7. Enter the name of the database to which to connect:

   For a PowerDesigner connection, you need not specify a database unless you want to reverse-engineer it. In this case, “reverse-engineer” means to create a database and then determine its schema, rather than using the normal process of creating the schema first and then creating the database.

   You can fill in values for the other parameters in the box. For information about each parameter, see the online help or the ODBC Driver Reference Guide.

8. Click OK, and close the rest of the ODBC dialog boxes.
9. Exit the program.
