The IQ message file is created when an SAP Sybase IQ server
starts for the first time.
If the file has been deleted or renamed, the server automatically creates a new IQ
message file when the server is restarted. The IQ message file will continue to grow
over time. However, the DBA can set a maximum file size after which it the file wraps
around and overwrites the oldest records.
The IQ message file captures:
- SAP Sybase IQ server start up information
- Messages concerning the time and records for table loads, deletes and
truncations
- Transaction IDs for all connections to the database
- Times of server checkpoints
- Error messages which are typically identified by “exception
thrown”
- Status messages
- Query plans
The name of the physical file is
dbname.iqmsg. There is one
message log per database, for file system only.
