Importing data into a report

You can import and display data from an external source and view the data or save the data in an external format.

NoteImporting is not available in a report packaged in an executable file When you create an InfoMaker application (which is an executable file), you can include reports. When you run a report from the executable file, you cannot import data.

StepsTo import data into a report:

  1. Select Rows>Import from the menu bar.

  2. Specify the file from which you want to import the data.

The types of files that you can import into the painter display in the List Files of Type drop-down list.

  3. Click Open.

InfoMaker reads the data from the file into the Report painter. You can view the data and save the data in an external file.

NoteData from file must match report definition When importing data from a file, the datatypes of the data must match, column for column, all the columns in the report definition (the columns specified in the SELECT statement), not just the columns that are displayed in the report.

For information about importing XML data, see Chapter 12, “Exporting and Importing XML Data.”
