The DB2 UDB Option is available for either CICS or IMS. It resides on the mainframe and works with the DirectConnect for z/OS Option to provide dynamic access to mainframe DB2 data.
Client applications access the DB2 UDB Option in any of these ways:
Directly, through the DirectConnect for z/OS Option DB2 access service or Transaction Router Service (TRS), or gateway-less
Indirectly, through the CIS functionality in ASE (ASE/CIS)
Through Replication Server® when replicating to DB2 for z/OS
You can use DB2 UDB Option with or without the DirectConnect
