Simple Load-Balancing Cluster

A simple load-balancing cluster installs SAP Mobile Platform Runtime components onto multiple servers that are configured to share the workload, with additional (optional) SAP Mobile Server nodes installed as scale-out nodes. With two SAP Mobile Server application server nodes, the system continues to operate if either application server node fails.

Design Characteristics and Use Cases
Consideration Details
Recommended for
  • Multiuser development and test environments of smaller scale
  • Low-volume production environments, to maintain performance requirements while adapting to changing demands
Degree of collocation None or partial, depending on hardware resource restrictions.
Not recommended for
  • High-volume production environments

Installation procedure used Installing SAP Mobile Server in a Simple Load-Balancing Cluster in Installation Guide for Runtime
Limitations
  • No failover support for the database; single point of failure risk
  • Disk resources must be adequate to support all databases managed by the data tier
  • Increased complexity of managing and monitoring the server hardware and its associated software
Benefits
  • Scalable
  • Improved performance
