SAP Mobile Platform Runtime

SAP Mobile Platform Runtime provides the platform infrastructure that allows you to deploy and manage your mobile applications.

The platform, as mobile middleware, serves as the information bridge between device users and enterprise data which is secured behind the corporate firewall or hosted in a cloud infrastructure.

This platform infrastructure is installed alongside other corporate assets in a tiered architecture. SAP Mobile Platform can be installed as a clustered system, which allows conventional load-balancing and failover mechanisms to provide higher system availability.

• Web Tier
  The Web tier includes a proxy server, which enables secure, load-balanced communication between mobile devices and SAP Mobile Server. Across-the-firewall deployment occurs without opening any internal firewall ports for enterprise mobilization and ensures that data is secure while in transit. Relay Server or a third-party proxy server, such as Apache Reverse Proxy, can be used as the proxy server.
• Application Tier
  As the key component of the application tier, SAP Mobile Server handles enterprise data source and application access, communication between the EIS data source and the mobile device, security, transaction processing, and scheduling.
• Data Tier
  The data tier stores data used by SAP Mobile Server and the management console within the runtime landscape.
• Security
  An SAP Mobile Platform deployment introduces a multilayer approach to corporate security designed for mobility.
• Supportability
  SAP Mobile Platform integrates supportability tools, including SAP® Solution Manager, SAP Change & Transport System (CTS/CTS+), and HP LoadRunner.
• Mobile Application Life Cycle
  The mobile application provisioning life cycle defines the process by which an enterprise gives users access to applications and other related mobility resources (enterprise data, network connections, and so on) allowing the application to mediate the user interaction with your organization in a sustained and controllable fashion.
• Administration and Monitoring
  Administrators interact with SAP Mobile Platform primarily to configure platform components and ensure the production environment works efficiently as a result of that configuration. A Web-based administrative console, SAP Control Center, is used to manage and administer SAP Mobile Servers, device application deployment, and mobile devices running across the corporate network.
