License Deployment Models

Software licenses for Unwired Platform components use the Sybase Software Asset Management (SySAM) system. SySAM provides two license deployment models from which to choose.

Unserved license – Each license is granted for one, specific host. The license file must be stored locally, on the Unwired Platform host. The license cannot be transferred to another host.
Served license – A license is granted for a number of hosts. The license file is stored on a SySAM license server, and the license can be automatically acquired (checked out) by any Unwired Platform host.

If you choose the served license model, you must deploy a SySAM license server to support the Unwired Platform system, and you must enable network communications between the SySAM license server and all Unwired Platform server hosts.
