Testing a Regular Expression

Use the Regular Expression Tester to validate a regular expression.

The Test Regular Expression button is enabled in the String Rule Validation dialog when you select "matches regular expression" as the Rule Validation Type.

  1. In the String Rule Validation dialog, click Test Regular Expression.
  2. In the Regular Expression Tester dialog:
    Option Description
    Validation Expression Enter the regular expression you defined.
    Test Value Enter the value used to test whether or not it conforms to the regular expression defined in Validation Expression.
  3. Click Test to perform the regular expression test.
    The results of the validation test display in the Test Result field.
  4. Click OK.
