Determining the Adaptive Server Version

Before using the binary overlay, verify that your current version of Adaptive Server is at least 15.7.

If your server is at a 15.7 version level, you can begin installing Adaptive Server 15.7 ESD #2.

Verify that you have version 15.7 or 15.7 ESD #1:
- If your server is running:
```
1> select @@version
2> go
```
- If your server is not running:
```
 $SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE/bin/dataserver -v
```
Source environment variables before executing dataserver -v.

If the result shows that the Adaptive Server is earlier than version 15.7, you cannot use the binary overlay, but must use an upgrade method instead. See Adaptive Server Upgrades.
