Changing Server Discovery Settings

Learn how to change the discovery settings.

  1. Navigate to Tools > Adaptive Server Enterprise > Preferences > Server Discovery.
  2. Check Enable Server Discovery
  3. Select Add.
  4. Select the discovery method from the scroll menu.
    • JINI – an open architecture that enables developers to create network-centric services that are highly adaptive to change. JINI offers a standard lookup service for discovery.
    • User Datagram Protocol (UDP) – a network protocol that provides a procedure for application programs to send messages to other programs with a minimal protocol mechanism.
Note: If UDP is used, only servers on the same subnet as the one on which Sybase Central is running are discovered.
  5. If you selected JINI in the previous step:
    1. Select the host of the JINI server
    2. Select either the default host and port or enter new ones
  6. Click OK.
  7. To add or edit a discovery filter, click Filters. Server Discovery uses only the selected filters for its search. To specify a filter:
    1. Click Add.
    2. Select Enable this Filter.
    3. Select the target you want filtered, Host, Name, OS, Platform, Port, Release type, Status, Version.
    4. Select the condition: contains, does not contain, is, is not, starts with, ends with.
    5. Enter the condition string you want Server Discovery to filter on.
    6. Click OK.
