Starting a database server with an AWE cache [-cw]

Start a database with an AWE cache to take advantage of the large cache sizes available with Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. You instruct Sybase IQ to use AWE in the using the start_iq server option -cw.

This procedure assumes you are using Windows 2000. In this procedure you grant the Lock pages in memory privilege to the user ID under which the server is run.

Prerequisites:

  1. Log in to Windows as Administrator

  2. Select Start | Settings | Control Panel.

  3. Open the Administrative Tools folder.

  4. Double-click Local Security Policy.

  5. In the left pane, open Local Policies.

  6. In the left pane, double-click User Rights Assignment.

  7. In the right pane, double-click the Lock Pages In Memory policy.

  8. In the Local Security Policy Setting dialog, click Add.

  9. Select the user ID and click Add.

  10. In the Local Security Policy Setting dialog, click OK.

  11. Restart the computer for the setting to take effect.
