  • Action   Use the action Connect with an ODBC data source when you want to connect to a database using an ODBC data source.

When this action is chosen, the following options are available:

    Tip

Any information you enter in this Connect window, such as the user ID or password, is used instead of the parameters stored in an ODBC data source or an ODBC data source file.

    • ODBC Data Source name   Select this option and type the ODBC data source name to connect to the database. You can also choose a recently-used ODBC data source from the dropdown list. On Windows, you can view a list of data sources by clicking Browse.

This field is equivalent to the DSN connection parameter, which references a data source in the registry. See DataSourceName (DSN) connection parameter.

      • Open The ODBC Data Source Administrator button   Click the Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator button to open the ODBC Data Source Administrator window where you can select an ODBC data source from the list of available data sources, create a new data source, or configure an existing data source to use for the connection. See Creating ODBC data sources.

    • ODBC Data Source file   Select this option and type the ODBC data source file name for the connection. You can also choose a recently-used ODBC data source from the dropdown list. On Windows, you can search for the file by clicking Browse.

The ODBC data source file is often used for Unix systems. File data sources hold the same information as ODBC data sources stored in the registry. See FileDataSourceName (FILEDSN) connection parameter.
