Chapter 1: Understanding the Client Option

At the server

Typically, a server accepts requests from a client and returns results. In a Client Option environment, the server can be an Adaptive Server, an Open Server on the LAN, or a Server Option on the mainframe.

From the server standpoint, a request from an IBM host is no different than a request from a Sybase client. The Client Option participates in ASCII-EBCDIC and EBCDIC-ASCII translations and datatype conversions.
