Install the primary and the secondary servers in the same location on each node. The primary companion can be either a newly installed Adaptive Server or can be upgraded from an earlier version of Adaptive Server with existing databases, users, and so on. The secondary companion must be a newly installed Adaptive Server and cannot have any user logins or user databases, which ensures that all user logins and database names are unique within the cluster. After configuration for failover is complete, you can add user logins and databases to the secondary companion.
If you are installing on the local disk, make sure any databases are created on the shared disk.
The System Administrator assigns a server name when Adaptive Server is built. However, you must follow these naming requirements or failover does not work:
32-bit Adaptive Servers require that the server name be unique within the first four characters.
64-bit Adaptive Servers require that the server name be unique within the first eight characters.
See the installation documentation for your platform for information about installing and configuring Adaptive Server.
The error log must be located in the $SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE/install directory.
The high availability login and password must be the same value on both nodes. Login as any user that has either the ha_role or sa_role.
You must install Sybase high availability licenses on both servers. Check the error log to confirm that Adaptive Server recognizes the high availability license.
