Although this book assumes a basic knowledge of messaging systems in database management, this chapter introduces some basic message concepts and models, and provides a short glossary of terms. Most of the discussion concerns the new aspects of the messaging available in Adaptive Server. This set of messaging services functionality is also referred to in the document as Real Time Messaging Services (RTMS).
