Upgrading HP Itanium Replication Server 12.6 to Replication Server 15.0.1

All queue data must be removed before attempting to upgrade the 32-bit Replication Server 12.6 for HP Itanium to the 64-bit Replication Server 15.0.1 for HP Itanium. This is because the HP Itanium 64-bit server cannot read the queue data generated from the HP Itanium 32-bit server.

Perform these steps to ensure that no data is lost during the upgrade:

  1. Start the 32-bit Replication Server 12.6 for HP Itanium.

  2. Suspend all Replication Agent threads that are connected to the Replication Server.

  3. Allow all transactions to be applied on their DSI connections.

  4. Verify that the queues are empty. See “Upgrading Adaptive Server in replication system” in Chapter 3 of the Replication Server Configuration Guide for UNIX for instructions in using a dummy table to verify that all queues are empty.

  5. Shutdown the 32-bit Replication Server 12.6 for HP Itanium.

  6. Upgrade the 32-bit Replication Server 12.6 for HP Itanium to the 64-bit Replication Server 15.0.1 for HP Itanium. See “Upgrading to Replication Server 15.0.1 from 12.6 or earlier” in Chapter 3 of the Replication Server Configuration Guide for UNIX for more information.

  7. Use the command admin who to check the distributor thread. If the distributor thread fails to start, the queues still contain data generated from the 32-bit Replication Server 12.6 for HP Itanium.

  8. Start all Replication Agent threads.
