Replication Server runs on one processor. It can run on an SMP system, but does not make use of additional CPUs.
A Replication Server plays three roles:
Getting and processing distributions from a primary database via a Replication Agent
Applying distributions to a replicate database
Receiving messages from another Replication Server and routing them to other Replication Servers
Each role uses different amounts of CPU time. One Replication Server can play all roles, or the roles can be split among multiple Replication Servers.
Overall performance depends on the number of columns in the tables, the sizes of the columns, the number of subscriptions, the number of sites subscribing, and so forth.
