Starting and Stopping ASE

Use the startserver utility to start the ASE developer edition server from command line. You can then use the Interactive SQL shutdown command to minimize the amount of work that automatic recovery needs to do when the servers are restarted.

Prerequisites

You must have read and write permissions on the master device for an Adaptive Server to start it with the startserver utility. Similarly, only the system administrator has permission to issue a shutdown command.

For more information about the startserver utility or shutdown comand, see the Adaptive Server Enterprise documentation located at the main level of the Sybase WorkSpace online bookshelf. If this server documentation is not installed, the documentation is available on the Sybase Product Manuals Web site at http://sybooks.sybase.com.
