Database Development provides visual tools to create and debug database objects. You can create, edit, save, debug, and execute procedural objects, real-time messaging statements, and SQL files. From stored procedures, you can derive database services to integrate with business process services, message services, or Web services using Sybase WorkSpace Service Development.
New and changed features include:
For all databases:- Database Explorer view has been integrated into the Enterprise Explorer view.
- SQL Scrapbook provides a view (or interface) that is similar to Interactive SQL, and lets you easily enter and execute SQL commands and queries to any target server, as well as create procedural objects without creating a SQL file.
- You can now generate DDL for one or more selected objects.
- Permissions support (grant/revoke) is available on database objects.
- Life cycle (create, edit, drop, rename) support is available for additional database objects: rules, defaults, user-defined datatypes, and constraints.
- Use F3 key to open the definition for a table, view, default, or user-defined datatype in SQL File editor.
- Visual SQL dialog enhancements:
- Support for CIS proxy objects.
- Support for Sybase Data Federation as a database server.
- Support for DML round-tripping for select, insert, update, and delete statements.
- SQL statement templates that enter predefined SQL code, including automatically determined
table columns, into a SQL file or procedural object at the desired
location.
Content Assist provides return/input variable list and any necessary if statements to handle the errors and return codes.
- insert statements: include all table columns and default values once the user enters the value for the table variable.
- select, delete, and update statements: include where clause that includes conditions based on primary key columns.
- Ability to add insert statements using the Temporary Table Creation wizard, which allows you to automatically create and populate temporary tables when you are debugging stored procedures.
- New cheat sheets:
-
Developing a SQL Anywhere Table
- Developing a Sybase IQ Table
- Developing an ASE Table
- Getting Started With Database Development

Display proxy tables under the ASE database connection
profile in Enterprise Explorer.
- Proxy table awareness in the Visual SQL
dialog.
